Meet The Staff

Our staff at the Children’s Dental Surgery Center is comprised of a team of highly skilled and caring health professionals dedicated to safely treating children who suffer from severe tooth decay and are unable to be treated with conventional means.

The team at the Children’s Dental Surgery Center strives for excellence in all areas of pediatric dental care. We understand that surgical procedures can be stressful for patients and their families. It is our goal to provide support, compassion and proper education before, during and after surgical procedures to reduce these fears. They pride themselves on staying on the cutting edge of pediatric dentistry and strive for the highest standards of quality and integrity, and are motivated to achieve the best results for our family of patients.

Our rigorous credentialing process follows Federal and State regulatory requirements, as well as accreditation standards for verifying the education, training, licensure and current competence in order to ensure that privileges are only granted to qualified Providers.

Our professional staff of pediatric dentists, anesthesia providers, specially trained nurses and dental assistants is dedicated to delivering the highest level of pediatric dental surgery to our patients and families.

  • Dr. Brian Hong

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Brian Hong is a graduate of Occidental College and received his D.D.S from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. He completed his pediatric dental residency at USC/Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and also obtained an M.S. in Craniofacial Biology from the University of Southern California.

    He also regularly attends professional meetings and continuing education courses to stay on the cutting edge of pediatric dentistry. Dr. Hong is an active member of the following professional organizations:

  • Dr. Kevin Hszieh

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Kevin Hszieh was born in Southern California and raised in Northern California. He completed his undergraduate studies at Pacific Union College, where he received his B.S. degree in Biochemistry. He then attended Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, where he graduated with his DDS in 1998. After practicing general dentistry for two years, he returned to Loma Linda University, where he furthered his education by completing a Pediatric Dental Residency in 2002.

    In addition to private practice, Dr. Kevin served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Loma Linda University from 2002-2005. He served as the Dental Director of Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County, a non profit organization serving underprivileged children, as well as Co-Director of the USC Pediatric Dental Residency Program at CHOC from 2005 to 2014. He currently serves as the Dental Director at Serve the People, a non profit community health organization in Santa Ana.

    Dr. Kevin is on the medical staff at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and is an Attending Pediatric Dentist at the Children’s Dental Surgery Center (CDSC), where he has performed hundreds of complete oral dental rehabilitation cases under general anesthesia.

    He also regularly attends professional meetings and continuing education courses to stay on the cutting edge of pediatric dentistry. Dr. Kevin is an active member of the following professional organizations:

  • Dr. Rosemary Tran

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Rosemary Tran (also known as Dr. Rosie) was born and raised in Orange County, attended Garden Grove High School, and continued on to attend UCLA for her B.A. degree in Economics. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 2016, where she earned numerous awards for community service and leadership. She then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan to earn her Pediatric Dentistry Certificate and Masters degree at the University of Michigan. Her two and a half years of Pediatric specialty training prepared her to care for children with special healthcare needs and focus on caries disease prevention.
    Dr. Rosie is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Orange County Dental Society. She is board-eligible by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
    When not practicing pediatric dentistry, Dr. Rosie enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, baking, and binge-watching Netflix shows.

  • Dr. Richard S. Lee

    Pediatric Dentist

    Richard S. Lee is a Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Pediatric Dentist. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

    A Southern California native, Dr. Lee completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California where he received his BA in Biological Sciences in 1992. He then attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA where he graduated with his DMD in 1996. After completing his studies there, Dr. Lee completed his Pediatric Dentistry Residency at New York University College of Dentistry and New York University Medical Center. Furthering his education, he then completed extensive Fellowship training at the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.

    Dr. Lee has worked in the dental field for a total of 21 years, spending 19 of those years in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Lee is a published author and regularly attends continuing education and professional meetings to stay current with all aspects of pediatric dentistry. He is an active member of the following professional organizations:

  • Dr. Soo Song

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Soo Song is a board-certified pediatric dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

    Dr. Song was born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in San Jose, CA. She became a Southern California transplant since college, where she graduated from University of California, Los Angeles with a BS degree in Biochemistry and a MS degree in Physiological Science. Dr. Song received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, and was awarded numerous scholarships including the AAPD Predoctoral Student Award, given to one senior dental student for showing most promise in pediatric dentistry. She was also granted membership to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honors fraternity for her academic achievements in the top 12% of her class.

    Dr. Song served as Chief Resident and completed advanced training in pediatric dentistry with NYU Langone at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA. Her training included sedation dentistry, management of dental trauma, and the treatment of children with special health care needs. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and San Gabriel Valley Dental Society.

  • Dr. Christine Kim

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Christine Kim is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist who grew up and trained in Southern California.She completed her undergraduate studies from the University of California Los Angeles and received her B.S. degree in Molecular, Cell &; Developmental Biology. She continued her studies and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from UCLA School of Dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Kim completed her General Practice Residency at Ranchos Los Amigos
    Rehabilitation Center, where she was trained to provide dental care for patients with special needs in both outpatient and hospital settings. Dr. Kim was then inspired to work with children which led her to Loma Linda University for her pediatric dental residency and graduated with a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) degree.

    Currently, Dr. Kim works in private practice and teaches part-time as Adjunct Assistant
    Professor of Clinical Dentistry at USC in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Kim is a Diplomat of the
    American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Dental Association,
    California Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and California Society
    of Pediatric Dentistry.

  • Dr. Karen Anderson

    DDS Attending Anesthesiologist

    Dr. Karen Anderson is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and received her D.D.S. form the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. Dr. Anderson went on to complete a General Practice Residency at Ohio State University College of Dentistry. She then completed her residency in Dental Anesthesiology at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

  • Dr. Gary Hszieh

    DDS Attending Anesthesiologist

    Dr. Gary Hszieh is a graduate of La Sierra University and received his Master of Science in Physiology at Loma Linda University. Dr. Hszieh went on to receive his DDS from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He then completed his residency in Dental Anesthesiology at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

  • Dr. Marjon B. Jahromi

    Dentist Anesthesiologist

    Dr. Marjon B. Jahromi has been practicing as a dentist anesthesiologist in Southern California since 2003 and has performed thousands of anesthetics during her professional career.

    She graduated from the top ranked dental school in the U.S., the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2001 where she achieved academic excellence as a dental student and national recognition for her dental research. She was awarded the Academy of Osseointegration Annual Oral Presentation in 2000 for her research presentation about growth factors that improved dental implant success.

    Dr. Jahromi was then selected into a prestigious dental anesthesia residency at Loma Linda University Special Care Dentistry and Riverside County Regional Medical Center in June 2003. As a resident, she performed a variety of complex medical anesthesia cases.

    As an Assistant Professor and Attending Anesthesiologist in the Dental Anesthesia Department at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry for 12 years, Dr. Jahromi treated a wide array of complex medical and surgical cases. She is experienced in providing anesthesia services in various settings including private offices, surgical centers and hospitals in the safest manner. As a General Anesthesia evaluator for the Dental Board of California, she tests other dentist anesthesiologists and oral surgeons on their safety practices. She is a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology (2004).

    Dr. Jahromi authored a chapter entitled, “Nitrous Oxide Sedation” in Pfenninger and Fowler’s (2011) medical textbook, Procedures for Primary Care.

    She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life support (BLS).

    Dr. Jahromi lives in Southern California with her husband and son. She enjoys pilates, tennis and painting with her family

  • Dr. Ivan D. Rees

    ADBA Board Certified Dentist Anesthesiologist

    Dr. Rees began his training in health care at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree. From there he decided to receive more extensive dental training in a hospital and emergency room setting. He took a general practice residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York. After completing the one year residence he was asked to remain on staff as Chief Resident over the dental department. During his second year of providing hospital based dental treatment he was introduced to anesthesiology for dentistry.

    This experience spurred Dr. Rees on to pursue specialization as a dentist anesthesiologist. His training in anesthesia residency was along side physician anesthesia residents at the Loma Linda University Medical Center. After completing the two year residency, Dr. Rees had extensive experience and training providing all levels of sedation and anesthesia to children, adults, and any patient with special needs . He received training in critical care medicine, cardiology, and internal medicine along with his anesthesia curriculum. Dr. Rees also went on to become a board certified fellow of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology, the most well recognized certifying board of dentist anesthesiologists.

    Dr. Rees and his wife live in the greater Los Angeles area and love the outdoors, hiking, camping, running, biking, you name it! Dr. Rees likes to put his personal faith into all that he does and in the service that he provides to all of his patients and their families.

  • Dr. Rachelle Kim

    Dentist Anesthesiologist

    Dr. Rachelle Kim attained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Pacific Union College, a private liberal arts college in Napa Valley, California, where she then continued on to Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Southern California for her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree and also completed her postdoctoral credentials in dental anesthesiology.

    As part of Loma Linda University’s three year dental anesthesiology postgraduate residency training program, Dr. Kim completed rotations in cardiology, acute and chronic pain management, internal medicine, pre-anesthesia consultation and education, hospital-based operating room anesthesia, and dental ambulatory surgery center based anesthesia. She has rotated through 11 months of medical anesthesia training programs where she treated patients with complex health histories undergoing various medical procedures at the Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, and Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center. She has also treated veterans at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital.

    Furthermore, Dr. Kim extensively trained at Koppel Special Care Dentistry Center where she learned to be proficient in providing all aspects of sedation and general anesthesia in the dental setting. The community that she served ranged from pediatric patients that were of pre-cooperative age and/or fearful of the dentist to patients of varying ages with special needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, ADD/ADHD, Intellectual disabilities, and much more. Along with Dr. Kim’s clinically intensive training, she has complemented her discipline in anesthesia with didactic lectures, simulation emergency training, medical grand round seminars, and anesthesia related case study research and journal club reviews.

    Dr. Kim is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology. This credential is the highest level of anesthesia training that can be achieved in dentistry.

    Dr. Kim is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). She is licensed and holds a current General Anesthesia permit by the Dental Board of California. Dr. Kim is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Los Angeles Dental Association, and the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists.

    In Dr. Kim’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her loving husband, Jon, and her family and friends. She has a passion for traveling the world, food (cooking and eating), and going out in nature, especially at the beach.

  • Dr. Christine A. Son, DDS

    Dentist Anesthesiologist

    Dr. Christine Son received her doctorate from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 2008 and enjoyed private practice as a general practitioner for 7 years. She then pursued a specialty in dental anesthesia at her alma mater and was trained in a 3-year program treating both pediatric patients as well as patients with special needs. In addition, she completed hospital rotations in internal medicine, cardiology, emergency, and medical anesthesia.

    Dr. Son holds a dental license and general anesthesia permit issued by the Dental Board of California. She also holds certificates for Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS & CPR), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support: Experienced Provider (ACLS).

    In her spare time, Dr. Son spends time with her loving husband and daughter along with her two yellow Labrador Retrievers, Toby and Zoe. She also loves traveling to places and experiencing different cultures such as Tanzania, Guatemala, Jamaica, Portugal, and Morocco.

  • Dr. David Lee

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. David Lee was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He received his B.S in Health Sciences from the University of Miami. He then went on to complete his M.S. in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University, work for Americorps, and receive his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Class President. Upon graduation of dental school, he moved back to California completed a General Practice Residency at the University of California – San Francisco to continue his development as a dental health provider and where his passion for pediatric dentistry continued to grow.

    Dr. David completed his three year pediatric dental residency at UCSF, where he had extensive training in all aspects of pediatric dentistry. He was honored to serve as the Chief Resident and hopes to implement all that he has learned into the care of his patients. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental association, California Society of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a candidate for board certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

    When he is not in the office, Dr. David is cooking dinner for family and friends, finding new restaurants, traveling, or playing sports.

  • Dr. Erina Hung

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Hung is a board-certified pediatric dentist who grew up in Southern California. She attended UCLA for her undergraduate studies, receiving a B.S in Psychobiology. She then completed dental school at the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she won several national awards for leadership with the American Student Dental Association. After dental school, she attended the pediatric dental residency at University of Florida, Naples, where she was the recipient of the Richard C. Pugh Award for scoring in the top 3% on the national written board exam.

    In her spare time, Dr. Hung enjoys fostering animals for rescue organizations, reading books, eating great food, and spending time with her family and pets.

    Dr. Hung is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Orange County Dental Society. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

  • Dr. Mike Park

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Mike Park grew up near Chicago, IL for most of his childhood until high school. He went to study biological sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Thereafter, he moved to New York City to receive his dental education at Columbia University. While in dental school, he volunteered in multiple global outreaches in Guatemala and Mexico to treat children with limited access to dental care, where he was inspired to specialize in pediatric dentistry. He then completed a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry at New York University. After completion of his education, he moved to sunny southern California with his family.

    Dr. Mike is an active member of ADA (American Dental Association), CDA (California Dental Association), and a board eligible member of AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry).
